A fee calculator, a profit calculator and a pricing tool
Price from a profit
Leave it on “Find my price”, enter the margin or the dollar profit you want, and it finds the lowest price that leaves that much after every fee.
Profit from a price
Switch to “I know my price”, type what you will charge, and read the profit, the margin and each fee line.
Break-even price
Shown in both modes: the price where the sale covers the item, your shipping and eBay’s fees exactly. Anything less loses money.
How eBay works out its fees
The calculator runs these steps in this order. Enter eBay’s own examples on the right and it gives eBay’s figures to the cent.
- Total amount of the sale
- Item price + the shipping and handling the buyer pays + the sales tax eBay collects. Every percentage fee below is taken from this number.
- Final value fee
- The total × your category’s rate. Without a Store most categories pay 13.6% up to $7,500; a Basic Store or higher pays 12.7% up to $2,500, and less in electronics, computers, cameras, phones and more.
- Per-order fee
- $0.40 per order, $0.30 when the total is $10.00 or less. Once per order, however many items.
- Adjustments
- Top Rated Plus takes 10% off the final value fee (ebay.com; not the per-order fee). Below Standard adds 6% of the total. A buyer abroad adds the international fee.
- Promoted Listings
- The total × your ad rate, only when the sale came through a click on your ad.
- Listing fees
- The insertion fee once your free listings for the month are used, plus any upgrades you add. Both are paid when you list, sold or not.
- What you keep
- Item price + buyer shipping − every eBay fee − what the item cost you − what you pay to ship it. The tax goes to the state or province.

Questions about eBay fees
How much does eBay take from a sale?
In most categories, without an eBay Store, 13.6% of the total amount of the sale plus a $0.40 per-order fee. The total includes the shipping the buyer paid and the sales tax, so on a $100 item with $10 shipping and 7% tax eBay takes $16.41.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Yes. The final value fee, the international fee and the Promoted Listings fee are all a percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes the shipping and handling the buyer paid and the sales tax eBay collects. That is why the calculator asks for both.
How do I work out the price to charge on eBay?
Choose “Find my price”, enter what the item cost you and what shipping costs you, and the profit you want as a margin or in dollars. The calculator searches for the lowest price that leaves that profit after every fee, including the ones charged on the buyer’s shipping and tax.
How does the price check work?
It reads eBay’s sold listings of about the last 90 days and the fixed-price listings live now, for your title or for the listing you paste (in its own category and condition). It keeps only listings that name the item, drops prices under half or over twice the typical one, and suggests three prices from the sales: below most of them to sell fast, the middle one, and the upper quarter. Prices include the shipping the buyer paid. With fewer than three sales it falls back to the live listings and says so.
What is a break-even price on eBay?
The price at which the sale exactly covers the item, your shipping and all of eBay’s fees. Sell below it and you lose money. The calculator shows it in both modes.
Is an eBay Store worth it for the lower fees?
It depends on your category and volume. A Basic Store lowers most categories from 13.6% to 12.7%, and electronics, computers, cameras and phones much further. Pick your category, switch the Store level, and compare the fees per sale with the monthly subscription.
Are the fees the same on ebay.ca?
The final value fee rates and the per-order fee are the same on ebay.ca, in Canadian dollars, except that ebay.ca has no separate rate for handbags, jewelry and watches. The international fee is lower: 0.4% to US buyers and 1% elsewhere. ebay.ca offers Basic, Premium and Anchor Stores, and its fee pages name no Top Rated Plus discount.
Does eBay give back fees when I refund a buyer?
For a full refund eBay credits the final value fee back. The per-order fee, insertion fees and upgrades are not returned.
Is there still a PayPal or payment processing fee?
No. eBay handles payments itself, and the processing cost is part of the final value fee and the per-order fee. There is nothing else to add for an eBay sale.
What is not included?
Auction-only fees (reserve price, short durations), Store subscriptions themselves, the extra fee for a very high “not as described” return rate, dispute fees and currency conversion. eBay International Shipping sales pay no international fee: leave the buyer in your country for those.
Is this eBay fee calculator free?
Yes, with no sign-up. The fee sums run in your browser and are not sent anywhere; a price check sends only the title or link you enter, to look it up on eBay. Your last entries are kept in a cookie in this browser for a year, so the calculator is ready next time.
