Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most common questions about SafeBay's buyer blacklist, Chrome extension, and seller protection tools.
General
SafeBay is a free eBay seller protection platform. It provides a community-driven buyer blacklist, the SafeBay Companion Chrome extension for real-time alerts, AI-powered auto-replies, auto-relist to maintain search visibility, and order management tools — all designed to help eBay sellers protect their businesses.
SafeBay is designed for eBay sellers of all sizes. Whether you're a casual seller or run a full-time eBay business, you can use SafeBay to protect your store from problematic buyers. You just need an active eBay seller account to get started.
No. SafeBay is an independent third-party tool built by eBay sellers, for eBay sellers. We use eBay's official OAuth API for secure account verification, but we are not owned, endorsed, or affiliated with eBay Inc.
Buyer Blacklist
When an eBay seller encounters a problematic buyer — such as someone who files false claims, commits return fraud, or engages in buyer manipulation — they submit a report on SafeBay with details about the issue. This report is visible to the entire seller community. Other sellers can then check any buyer against the blacklist before shipping an order. Risk levels (Low, Medium, High) are calculated based on the number of independent reports, severity, and recency.
SafeBay takes report accuracy seriously. Every report is tied to an authenticated eBay seller account verified through eBay OAuth, so anonymous or fabricated reports are not possible. Buyers who believe they have been reported unfairly can submit an appeal directly from their buyer profile page. Appeals are reviewed, and inaccurate reports can be removed or corrected.
Risk levels are calculated based on multiple factors: the number of independent seller reports, the severity of reported issues, the recency of reports, and whether multiple unrelated sellers have reported similar patterns. A buyer reported by several unrelated sellers for the same issue carries a higher risk score than a single isolated report.
Reports show the reporting seller's eBay username for transparency. This ensures accountability — only verified sellers with real eBay stores can submit reports. You can view all reports on any buyer's public profile page.
SafeBay Companion (Chrome Extension)
Yes. The SafeBay Companion extension can automatically sync the community blacklist to your eBay Buyer Block list. When a buyer is reported on SafeBay, the extension adds them to your block list so they cannot purchase from your store. You can customize which risk levels trigger auto-blocking and maintain a personal whitelist for buyers you trust.
The extension reads publicly accessible eBay pages that you're already logged into — the same pages you see when browsing eBay normally. It has read-only access and cannot modify your listings, orders, or account settings. All data stays in your browser's local storage.
Yes, the SafeBay Companion extension is completely free. You can download it here and start using it immediately. No signup required for basic features like order notifications and badge counts.
Reporting Buyers
Sign up for a free SafeBay account and connect your eBay store via OAuth. Then use the Report Buyer form — enter the buyer's eBay username, select issue tags (e.g. Return Abuse, Non-Payment, Chargeback Fraud), add details and evidence photos, and submit. You can also report without an account — your report will be saved and submitted after you register.
You can report issues including: Non-Payment, Chargeback Fraud, Return Abuse, Harassment, False Claims, Address Issues, Communication Problems, Unreasonable Demands, Policy Violations, Suspicious Activity, Feedback Extortion, and Item Not Returned. You can select multiple tags per report.
Yes. You can delete your own reports at any time from the buyer's profile page. Once deleted, your report and evidence are permanently removed and the buyer's risk level is recalculated.
Features & Tools
SafeBay is a complete eBay seller toolkit. In addition to the buyer blacklist and Chrome extension, it includes: AI-powered auto-replies that answer buyer messages 24/7, auto-relist that automatically relists ended items to maintain search visibility, order management with push notifications, feedback tracking, sales analytics, and a parts locator for appliance and automotive sellers.
The AI auto-reply feature reads incoming buyer messages and generates contextual responses based on your store's products, policies, and tone preferences. It can answer questions about shipping, returns, product compatibility, and more — reducing your response time from hours to seconds.
Auto-relist automatically monitors your ended listings and relists them to maintain search visibility on eBay. When an item doesn't sell, auto-relist creates a fresh listing so it appears higher in eBay search results. You can set up custom plans with filters, schedules, and pricing rules.
Billing & Plans
Yes. SafeBay offers a free plan that includes access to the community buyer blacklist, the Chrome extension, and buyer report submissions. All beta testers receive $100 in free credit toward premium features like AI auto-replies, auto-relist, and advanced analytics.
